Progress Report Format (M.Tech / B.Tech)

A progress report is usually submitted in the middle of your academic year (e.g., end of the 3rd semester for an M.Tech). It shows your evaluation committee what you have accomplished so far and what remains to be done.

How is a Progress Report different from a Final Thesis?

• Incomplete Results: You don't need all your final results. You just present the preliminary data you have gathered so far.
• Focus on Methodology: A large portion of the report will focus on the setup, literature review, and the methodology you are currently building.
• Future Work: The conclusion heavily emphasizes the remaining work to be completed in the final semester.

Standard Progress Report Structure

1. Front Pages

• Cover Page: Title, Student Name, Registration Number (e.g. XXXX), Department, and Date.
• Declaration & Certificates: Signed by the student and the guide (e.g. Dr. XXXX).
• Abstract: A summary of the project goals and the progress made so far.

2. Core Chapters

• Chapter 1: Introduction: Background and motivation.
• Chapter 2: Review of Literature: What has been done before by others.
• Chapter 3: Methodology: Materials prepared, equipment setup (e.g., Pin-on-disc machine), and testing parameters.
• Chapter 4: Initial Results & Discussion: Presenting the data collected so far (e.g., Rheological properties, initial frictional behavior graphs).
• Chapter 5: Summary and Future Work: What you have achieved and what you plan to do next semester.
