Academic Presentation Format
The perfect slide-by-slide structure for your M.Tech, B.Tech, or PhD thesis defense presentation.
Your thesis defense presentation (PPT) is just as important as your final report. A good presentation should be concise, visually heavy (charts/graphs), and logically structured. Below is the standard academic presentation format, modeled after a successful M.Tech thesis defense.
Standard Slide-by-Slide Outline
Slide 1: Title Slide
- Title: Tribological Characterisation of Bio Lubricant...
- Guided By: Dr. XXXX
- Presented By: Your Name (Roll No: XXXX)
- Institution: Department of Energy Engineering
Slide 2: Outline
A bulleted list of what you will cover: Introduction, Literature Review, Objective, Methodology, Results, Conclusion, References.
Slide 3: Introduction
Introduce the background of the study and the core problem. Keep text minimal; use diagrams if possible.
Slides 4-8: Literature Review
Summarize key papers that form the foundation of your research. Group them by themes or chronology to show the research gap.
Slide 9: Objectives
Clearly list 3-4 specific objectives. Example:
1. To study wear characteristics of CPO...
2. To compare performance with SAE 20W40...
Slides 10-12: Experimental Setup / Methodology
Show photos of the equipment used (e.g., Pin-on-disc tribometer) and tables detailing the test parameters and material specifications.
Slides 13-27: Results and Discussion (The Core)
This should be the largest section. Do not use walls of text. Show graphs, bar charts, and microscopic images. Present the data clearly and explain the trends.
Slide 28: Conclusion
Bullet points summarizing the final outcome. Example: "The wear rate is less for pin lubricated with CPO compared to SAE20W40."
Slides 29-30: References
List the major citations in IEEE/APA format.
Slides 31-33: Acknowledgement & Thank You
Thank the HOD, Faculty, and open the floor for questions.
